Soo Line Stock Car 29681

When I saw the Yarmouth Model Works post making modelers aware the Soo Line Stock Car, Kit 136, a flat resin kit, was available, I purchased two kits.   The Soo Line stock car that was announced at least seven years ago was finally here.   I wanted to quickly add the Soo Line stock cars in Soo Line series 29600-29999 to the Minneapolis & Northland Railroad Company fleet since these stock cars ran in Minnesota where I have my railroad located.

I finished the first Soo Line stock car numbered 29667 and posted the build of this stock car here on my blog.  My previous blog post was April 17th.    The build of Soo Line stock car 26681, this post,  filled the remainder modeling days in the month. 

For prototype photos and information on these stock cars please visit Soo Line Stock Car 29667.  Since the prototype data is the same for Soo Line stock cars 29681 and 29667,  I chose not to repeat the prototype data here.   Here I have only the photos of Soo Line stock car 29681 weathered and on the Minneapolis & Northland Railroad Company with Soo Line stock car 29667.

And, I also request you to go to the Soo Line stock car 29667 post for all work and methods used to build 29681 as they were the same as Soo Line Stock Car 29667.  Well there was one difference.   On the brake shaft upper two brackets the lower one is the 3D printed one provided in the kit.   I was able to install it on Soo Line stock car 29681 rather than lose it to one of the black holes surrounding my desk collecting parts.

The last step before putting Soo Line stock car 29681 in service was to weather the car with Artmatic eye shadow, Pan Pastels and Prismacolor Premier pencil.  First a Prismacolor Premier pencil, Cool Grey, was used on areas of the car body followed by an Artmatic eye shadow color like a Dark Box Car Red applied over entire car body.  Pan Pastels Paynes Grey Extra Dark 840.1  was used on the roof and lightly over safety appliances on car body.  Even if the weathering materials and application methods were the same used on Soo Line stock car 29667, the end result is not exactly the same.

Soo Line stock car 29681 was ready for service on the Minneapolis & Northland Railroad Company, The Lakeland Route, “Serving today, Shaping tomorrow.”  A car card was made for Soo Line 29681, the final step to put the a car in service on the Minneapolis & Northland Railroad Company Railroad.
