I began to develop my modeling skills in my early youth, building models of automobiles, planes , ships and trains. In my teenage years I continued to improve my modeling skills, focusing on trains while enjoying my model railroading hobby. My Minneapolis & Northland Railroad Company, which I started building and operating in 1973, allowed me to continue improving and sharing my modeling skills into the present.
I started sharing my modeling projects at local mall train shows. In my continued search to improve my skills I was introduced to the National Model Railroad Association, (NMRA) of which I am a life member. Here I found the NMRA Achievement Program which provided me a path to becoming a certified Master Model Railroader. My search to improve my skills also helped me find the Railroad Prototype Modelers groups, (RPM) which are a fabulous prototype and modeling knowledge resource.
After receiving the benefits of my association with the NMRA, RPM Groups and talents of the many individuals I got to know while enjoying model railroading, I felt the need to give back to the hobby. I served as NMRA Twin Cities Division president and Thousand Lakes Region president and vice-president as long as term limits allowed. In addition, I served on the NMRA Board Of Trustees and committees. During this service period I was able to assist each organization using the skills of my professional career, accounting. Since then I have continued sharing my modeling with newsletter and magazine articles, clinics, internet groups and now this blog.
